History of Martinworks

In early 1996, Paul Martin, after being a musician for more than 20 years and working in film and television as an accountant for the latter 7 years, began to assemble the broadcast quality music of his own, and others around him, that no one had been exposed to before. After becoming aware and familiar with the procedure of licensing music, respective copyright laws and royalties, Paul began to showcase these compositions and place many into the film and television world.

By the year 2001, with over 25 writers on board, 5 vocal compilations and 4 double-disc Instrumental volumes were available to the public for proper licensing. A total of 13 discs containing over 300 compositions. Over the past 9 years Martinworks has been popular in episodic television and feature films mainly for having very 'human' sounding material with more real musicians and less sequencing than most libraries.

In 2002, while living in London, England, Paul met with some local music and film producers, registered the catalogue with the BBC Music Library, Carlton Television, The Sounds Effects Library Ltd (London). He also registered Martinworks with MCPS\PRS, the performing rights society in the UK, to keep better informed of activities abroad.

In 2003, while living in New York, he met with both ASCAP and BMI to make sure that monies due to his Canadian composers were properly administered and distributed back to Canada. This library never stops growing in size and potential. With the website underway, Martinworks hopes to discover more Canadian talent to showcase to other avenues besides the Top 20.

Many of Martinworks’ composers are also experienced and available for custom designed themes, stings and bumpers. All the writers are Canadian and these compositions are available on a "Song by Song" or "Blanket" license.

In 2004, back in Toronto, a year of redevelopment began by researching and preparing for this website and other projects.

2005  Brings the addition of single song downloading available on the new website, Martinworks is now able to reach even further into the worldwide market for music with fresh new material.

2006 The website recieves hits from over 30 countries and begins to add new writers and 100 fresh new compositions in the Vocal and Instrumental sections.

2007 Martinworks continues to promote the library worldwide and also continues its search for new Canadian music to display. Will it ever end? We hope not.
